There are a ton of social media “experts” online, but few truly Crush It! like @garyvee when it comes to engaging with prospective customers online.
So when I had the opportunity to sit down with best-selling author and social media rockstar Gary Vaynerchuk for a piece with Marketing Profs, I jumped at the opportunity.
Vaynerchuk, for the two of you who haven’t heard, is author of the start-up business bible Crush It!, and founder of WineLibrary.com, teaching everyone from Ellen DeGeneres to Conan O’Brien not only how to taste wine, but how to turn your passion into gold online.
Today, Vaynerchuk has millions of followers on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn, but you’ll still see Mr. Crush It! “unscale the unscalable” as he likes to say, responding to fan tweets and everyday emails asking him where the hottest wines are this year.
He even hands out free advice about online marketing and social media engagement, as he did during our conversation, encouraging wineries and other business owners to engage with their customer base where they hang out online, or risk dying off completely.
“Communication is the single most important thing,” Vaynerchuk stressed at the beginning of the interview. “Blogging was the big thing a few years back. Microblogging is now the big thing, and it’s changed the dynamics a little bit. I love blogging, I come from blogging as a video blogger. But it all comes back to communication. Today, you have to be communicating on an everyday basis because communication is as important as ever.”
